As expected, didn't sleep very well. I played some Mario 3D Land and read a little before I finally decided I'd give sleep a try, but my body wasn't used to it being so early. I had a restless night where I would awake often from random dreams involving Metal Gear Solid. Yeah, I don't know either, especially since I haven't even played Metal Gear Solid yet. But it persisted until the morning, though I did wake up on time.
Like the winter quarters before, as I don't have a 9:00 class, I have an hour's worth of freedom. During a regular quarter I maybe have 20 minutes, so it's nice in that regard. I actually managed to watch a video on Youtube this morning, as well as make sure all my stuff was in order without having to rush it.
It was a nice morning and I got to see the sun at one point, but when it actually came time to drive to school, the rain started. This last weekend, my dad discovered my windshield wiper blades were really crappy and worn out so we got them replaced, and during the drive to school it made a world of difference. It's not a wonder I was pretty much blinded every time it rained. My wipers sucked!
Everything pretty much went according to plan from there. Shuttle parking lot was already pretty full by that point but got a seat on the shuttle, found my CJ class alright, everything was fine. I wore my glasses to school so I wasn't really used to the rain and how to manage them in that type of weather. Thankfully, I was really early today so I had a decent amount of time to clean them. But, while standing around listening to music, I noticed that it seemed rather warm in the building. Despite the rain, the actual temps for the day were pretty mild and the warmth of the building felt unnecessary as a result. I walked around the upper floor of the building, just to get some air. I had never been in it before so it was a new experience. Really modern. After looking out the window for a while and seeing all the students walk to their classes, I started to head back and ran into my Children's Lit. teacher from spring quarter. She commented on the glasses and I told her that I guessed my eyesight had finally deteriorated. She laughed and said that before she got glasses she thought everything looked like bright star bursts and she didn't think anything was wrong. Actually, that's kinda how my world has looked for a while and I thought the same.
Class started a while after. When the previous class cleared out, I headed towards the front row. I sat there for a bit, just letting it soak in that I was back in school. I looked around the room after that and saw that it was a pretty big class this time, very much unlike when I took CJ 110.
Teacher gets there around 10:00. She seems lively. She gets up to the front and introduces herself, though she says there are a lot of familiar faces in the room and she probably didn't need to. She goes over the books and how the class is set up, and it turns out to be fairly different from my other two CJ classes and more lie my Philosophy of Law class. It's more of a discussion-based class with emphasis on reading the books so we can keep up and know what to talk about. The tests are also different, much to my horror, and could be in-class and essay-styled. And here I thought I was in for another rather easy 4.0. Guess I'll have to work towards it this time, huh?
It felt like class flew by, and before I knew it, it was already time for Math. But, as if my dream from a couple days back was warning me, I got lost. I just spaced out or something, and could not, for the life of me, find the one room in the other building. I've had a class in that building every other quarter so you'd think I'd know my way around that area better. Things got even more frustrating when I came to a hallway from the outside that had every consecutive number but the one I was looking for. Then I ran into someone who was looking for the class next to it so we walked back around and, would you know it, the room I was looking for was the one I had Anthropology in a year ago. Just with all the tables turned around. It's not a wonder I walked by it without a second look.
I was one of the last people there, but thankfully the teacher wasn't there yet either. Sat near the back this time as most of the ones up front were taken and/or belonged to this group of friends all trying to sit near one another. Teacher comes in and tells us the reason he was late was there was an "accident". I saw a firetruck at one of the buildings earlier so I was about to ask what happened, but then he took the silence and stares as the question on everyone's mind and told us he just spilled his coffee. Oh. Everyone got coffee syllabi as a result. He then did the same intro he did back when I had him spring quarter, telling us we need to keep an open mind and that, despite math being a hard subject for everyone, as long as we stay optimistic we'll be fine. He said his door was always open for help as well. Yeah, he's a pretty decent guy.
This class was soon over as well. Feels weird only having two classes on-campus. Really makes the day feel short. In any case, I donned my hood and trudged to the shuttle in the rain hoping there would still be spots open. There weren't, so I had to stand. Unfortunately, the heat was cranked up so not only did I have to stand, but I got to feel uncomfortably warm as well. I was kinda spacing out as I stood there, but at a long light, the girl standing in front of me told the two girls sitting in the seats near us she would try not to elbow them and her voice sounded familiar. From behind, she also looked familiar. Could it be? The return of Britney from English 126? Alas, I never did get a good look at her face, but that'd be nice if she was riding the shuttle at the same time I was. Maybe I'd get the chance to talk to her.
I found my car easily enough, despite the heavy rain and glasses getting all wet. Upon starting the car and looking in the mirror, I felt like with my hair all wet and with my glasses I looked a lot like Cillian Murphy when he played Scarecrow in Batman Begins. Just a random little thought.
I was home before I knew it, though still a bit late by my previous standards. Upon starting my iTouch, I learned that one of the headphones wasn't working, which meant it had taken some rain damage. On the drive home, I had left my headphones dangling from my neck onto my wet jacket, so that was probably the only time it could've happened. Thankfully, I think it's fixed itself now.
I logged onto the school's site and the Angel program to see what Anatomy will be like. Oy. That was my first reaction. Very booky, lots of reading. Test every week, as well as assignments. I did my very first one, which was to simply introduce myself and give some information about what I want to take from the class and how I'll go about staying on task. That sort of thing.
I was thinking for a while about how this quarter is gonna look, and I got a little scared. I want to do well this quarter, but there looks to be a lot of work. Lots of reading in particular. I read best when I'm doing it at night before I go to bed, which means that, unless I want to start reading during the afternoon or early evening, I might have to put my nightly gaming on hold for a while. Just like last winter quarter when I had to read novels. I don't want to do that, like, at all, but I kinda have to choose whether or not I want to relax or do well in my classes.
I did some reading tonight, in fact. Imagine that, doing homework on the first day of class. My younger self would be horrified.
I guess if worst does come to worst I'll just focus on one game at a time like I did when I didn't make so many purchases back in the day. Just one portable or console game at a time.
This year already feels like a throwback to a few years of my past.
